During the year 1967 Solapur Well Service (SWS) was established. SWS drilled wells in Maharashtra when there was severe drought. It began as a project encouraged by MCCS, to drill 1000 wells in India among the needy, poor and the marginalized people.

SWS was the pioneer in the research & development of hand pumps, ISI MARK 2, and this model was given without any royalty to UNICEF to be used for the poor and the marginalized of other countries. Today it is well recognized and used all over the world.
